What Is the Truth?
Dear family and friends,
Love. Truth. Beauty.
Everyone longs for these three things. You might say that most of all everyone longs for love. But everyone wants true love. And true love is beautiful.
Michael used to tell me that, like any man, he thought some women were pretty. Then he realized that the reason that he thought they were pretty was because they looked like me. Actually I never thought I was beautiful, but eventually I accepted that Michael thought I was.
Time passed, and our looks changed. Michael used to ask me if I though he was handsome. I said I did not see how he looked. I saw that he was wonderful. He told be I was beautiful, and I told him he was wonderful. We loved each other very much.
Despite our illusions, we both knew that what we saw in each other was the truth, not the looks. The truth about each other transcended any other consideration in our dealings with each other. We loved each other very much.
Truth is what God wants us to know about Him. He wants us to know the truth about Him because He loves and wants to share Himself deeply with us. The Church offers us eternal love, eternal truth, and eternal beauty because God loves us very much and wants us to love Him.
Deacon Michael talks about how confusing it can be to be a good bride to Christ, because it is hard to see and accept the truth, even from the One who loves us more than anyone else.
For Life,
Laura
