Jesus’ Family Is Our Family

Dear family and friends,

Some kids have helicopter moms. This mom has helicopter kids. And I am so grateful

I had Covid, that's why I have not sent an email for the past couple of weeks. I managed to avoid it for a long time without being vaccinated, but I guess it finally mutated into a form that got to me. Because of my helicopter children, I took an antiviral, which did, eventually, kill the Covid, but for a while it was suffering on suffering. My family was constantly checking up on me and caring for me.

Families give you a base of caring and powerful people to help you in times of trouble. The human family reflects the Trinity, and the human family found its perfection in the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

We don't really give much thought to the thirty years Jesus spent inside his own family, out of the public eye. Yet the Scriptures tell us that after Mary and Joseph found Jesus in the temple teaching the teachers, he went back home with them and was obedient to them. God was, for thirty years, obedient to his earthly father, and his Immaculate Mother. He began his public ministry at the instigation of His mother. He comes to us through her. She is the mother of God and our mother as well.

Throughout the Scriptures we see the special love and protection God gives to women. The weakness and failures of men are writ large in God's word, even in the New Testament. Yet from His own mother to the woman caught in adultery, Jesus is full of tenderness towards women.

Now that I do not have my beloved husband to turn to in times of distress, my love for the Holy Family has increased, and the mutual love in my own family grows ever stronger. Jesus' family is my family and yours as well.

Deacon Michael shows us how much God loved us in giving us his own perfect Mother.
